Did you know NHL athletes test their fitness levels at York? We didn't! On January 13, Rick Mercer, a television host of the Rick Mercer Report featured on CBC Television, visited York University to feature us.
The comedian met with York University's president, Mamdouh Shoukri to teach Canada about its interdisciplinary focus. In fact, York offers over 5,000 fields of study to students. No wonder it houses 55,000 students!
So, how does York test NHL athletes? Through the School of Kinesiology and Health Science. Here, fitness tests are conducted to determine how fit an individual is. This allows the athlete to determine what areas of training need strengthening.

Mercer also visits the School of Nursing at York. This centre offers nursing students the opportunity to use low, medium, and high functioning mannequins and software programs. This allows students to experience error-inducing situations without jeopardizing their patient and themselves.
York's School of Nursing prepares students for careers in nursing, community health, public health promotion, nursing practice, health care managers and educators.
